My former students encouraged and inspired me to write. I taught English at both the middle
school and high school levels along with Physical Education K-12 and coaching for thirty-three
years. I still remember their voices, “You need to be a writer.” When I retired, I knew it was time.
My lemon lesson was my students’ and my favorite lesson I taught. Twenty years into teaching, I
was at brunch and was approached by a former student. She told me that she always remembered
the lemon lesson, and she carried its message within her heart. I decided to take the lesson and
create a book with the hope my writing will make a difference.
You know you are on to something, a passion, when it’s the first thing you think of when you wake up and the last thing you think of before you go to bed. I feel that passion. I feel blessed. I enjoy traveling, exploring nature, working out, and watching football and baseball. In the spring, I enjoy volunteering at the Houston rodeo. I am inspired by the famous line from Ferris Beuller’s Day Off, “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”
